Generative AI can produce convincing text, images, audio, video and supporting digital identities. The practical risk is not limited to an obvious deepfake. A fabricated or manipulated item may sit inside an otherwise credible chain of emails, profiles, corporate records, documents and genuine information.

Synthetic media investigation
Suspected AI-generated or manipulated images, audio, video and communications can be assessed in context rather than by relying on a single detection score. Relevant enquiries may include source history, file and publication context, associated accounts or domains, chronology, corroborating records and inconsistencies between the media and external facts.
Identity authentication and synthetic identities
A synthetic identity may combine genuine and invented information. Research can test whether a claimed person, professional history, corporate affiliation, address, online profile, image or supporting narrative is internally consistent and independently corroborated.
Provenance and information integrity
Provenance analysis considers where material originated, how it moved, what transformations are identifiable and whether the claimed source can be supported. Information-integrity enquiries can also examine networks of copied claims, coordinated personas, fabricated websites, false attribution or misleading material designed to create an appearance of independent confirmation.
AI evidence assessment
Where digital material may influence litigation, an investigation, a transaction or another consequential decision, the useful question is not simply whether AI was involved. The material should be tested for authenticity, provenance, corroboration, material inconsistencies and the significance of any unresolved gaps.
Evidence-led, not detector-led
Automated detection can be one input. It should not be treated as a conclusive finding without considering the source chain, surrounding facts and independent evidence.
